Planet lighting's Lucinda glass works consists of primarily two separate operations. The first is the hot glass shop and the second, the slump / fuse shop. The Lucinda glass works is the only commercial scale hot blown glass operation in Australia.
This operation consists of three day tanks including,
- 50kg per day colour tank
- 400kg per day opal tank
- 1200kg per day clear tank
- L ibrary of over 500 moulds
- Flame cutoff machines
- A twenty metre long downdraft tunnel annealing nehr
- Grinders, diamond saws and other cold end processing equipement.
Glass formulae are batched at 1400 degrees centigrade and refined each night. Hot glass is taken from a tank and combined with colour or opal then blown into a mould, placed in a centrifuge, laded into a pattern, gathered into a casting mould or handworked by the Murano techniques.
Once annealed, the glass is coloured with fired frits, cut, drilled, polished, ground or sand etched.
